The Challenge of Balancing Vampires
Vampire cards are more powerful than the average aether card, but cost 2 life each. These life is gained by your unique 0, siphon.
The problem: They are very hard to balance.
You can use non-vampire cards with non-vampire cards. You can use vampire cards with vampire cards. But also, you can use Siphon with non-vampire cards. Perhaps Knight has good HP to siphon, or siphon buys you time to cleric's and chronomancer's powerful endgames. You can also use vampire cards without siphon. An overclocked chastiser can come out early and run away with games, or a magister of blood out of nowhere can dominate the board. And then there's devoted servant. Devoted servant is good at getting aether, but the aether bomb is hard to spend with the lifecost mechanic. What if it was combined with painless aether sinks in neutral like Aether elemental or Musketeer queen?
I've spent the past 2 hours brainstorming, coding, and testing. This problem is too complex, and would delay the multiplayer release by at least one day to balance.
As such, I've decided Vampire cards will not be available in the initial multiplayer release, to avoid balance issues in PvP. They will be reintroduced when I have time to properly playtest and balance them, because I think they are a very cool and fun mechanic, skill testing both to play and play against.
